Although it was first announced during the latest Paris Motor Show, Renault has just unveiled new details of its all-new V6 engine. The engine, based on the 2.0-liter 4-cylinders, was developed in-house at the Rueil-Malmaison location in France, although it’s going to be built in the Cléon, France plant. It is going to be seen first in the Laguna coupé engine bay, where its performances will be quite good: 3.0-liter, 235hp and 450 Nm of torque (about 260 lb-ft). When the new V6 is installed in the Laguna coupé, the car will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.5 seconds. Fuel consumption in the European Mixed cycle is 7.2l/100 km, about 33mpg (US), with CO2 emissions of 192 g/km. This engine can be placed either transversally or longitudinally, the latter position allowing it to churn out 265hp and 550 Nm of torque (405 lb-ft). We will find this engine not only offered in Europe, but also in the US, where it will surely be combined with a NOx reduction system. Find the video after the jump.

Although we got an early peek at the new Nissan Cube before its official debut, the boxy little economy car had its formal introduction here at the LA Auto Show today. When it officially goes on sale next spring, it will be powered by the MR18DE 1.8L four cylinder engine that’s shared with the Versa and offers up 122 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices will be either a six-speed manual or an optional CVT, which will be the efficiency leader with an EPA rating that should come in over 30 miles per gallon. Buyers looking for customization potential will find plenty to like in the Cube, including an illumination kit with 20 selectable colors.
Click past the break for a video of the live unveiling along with Nissan’s official (and exhaustive) press release to see how the Japanese automaker was able to compare the diminutive Cube with its polar-opposite sportscar sibling, the GT-R. It’s good to have a halo car, huh?

We have been following the efforts of Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity, and his attempt to build an electric sports car which he can power from the wind. Like several other efforts, a Lotus (in this case, an Exige) is being used as the underlying platform. Also like others, his project is taking a little longer than it was meant to but he says they are on course to have something on the road this December.
One of the things extending the build time may have been the decision to lengthen the chassis by 90mm (3.5 inches). While it’s not to difficult to stretch the frame, the body work is a different matter and that is where Peter Stevens comes in. The designer of the McLaren F1 is now onboard with the project and will not just leave his fingerprints on the exterior but is also taking care of things like the instrumentation. Hit the jump for the latest chapter of the wind-powered sportscar in all its YouTube glory. You may also want to check out his Zero Carbonista blog for a few more details as well as a bit of Tesla-baiting.
